Signs That It Is Time To lose The Weight

Obesity is a serious health issue, but you can’t just look straight to your BMI to tell you whether or not you’re overweight; that little index number doesn’t take into consideration things like your build, your metabolism, your lifestyle, and all sorts of other things. But there are some hard and fast signals from your body that it might just be time to look into losing a couple of pounds.

You get winded walking up stairs

If you get winded walking up the stairs or doing every day activities, it could be due to weight gain. The National Institute of Health reports that the respiratory capacity decreases as you gain weight. Breathlessness can be associated with inactivity, a sign that your heart and lungs aren’t getting the workout they need to work their best.

Your joints hurt

If your knees, hips and back ache, is it due to extra weight that you are carrying around? Excess weight puts pressure on joints and can wear down the tissue around them, making joints ache and movement uncomfortable.

Your doctor says you have high blood pressure and cholesterol and/or you are told you are borderline diabetic.

Excess fat, particularly belly fat, can increase your risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and result in high cholesterol and high blood pressure. The good news is weight loss can bring these numbers back into a healthy range.

Snoring
pexels-photo-296817
Loud snoring with gasping sounds can be a symptom of sleep apnea, a condition where your breathing stops repeatedly for 10 seconds or more while you sleep. It can be caused by you putting on excess weight, and your body storing that weight in the form of fat around the neck. This narrows your breathing passages, causing your breathing to become shallow or stop while you are sleeping.

No more favorite jeans
pexels-photo-603022
You notice your clothes don’t fit anymore. You love slipping on your comfy jeans until they are no longer comfy. If your jeans are suddenly too tight or they don’t fit at all, it’s likely a sign you’ve put on some weight. Your favorite jeans can be a gauge to your weight gain.

Maintaining Healthy Relationships

Your mental health has a great impact on your ability to form and maintain relationships, whether it be with a spouse, parent, child, or friend.
Here are five tips tips on building  and maintaining healthy relationships:

1) Don’t sweat the small stuff. Sometimes, we lose the ability to celebrate our victories by often focusing only on our faults and failures. Always make an attempt to look at the bigger picture, including the things you are doing well in!

pexels-photo-901964

2)  Accept and celebrate differencesOne of the biggest challenges we experience in relationships is that we are all different. Coming from different backgrounds and being exposed to different things in life, sometimes can lead us to expectations that people will think like we do and, in this way, it is so much easier to create a rapport. Life would be so much easier if everyone totally understood where we were coming from. However, it would also be very dull if we were all the same and, while we may find it initially easier, the novelty of sameness soon would wear off. So accepting and celebrating that we are all different is a great starting point.

3) Express Yourself. Express your feelings; I cannot stress this enough! Keeping your feelings inside (whether good or bad) is never a great idea. Talk it out, release your thoughts, worries, and concerns. Holding your emotions in will eventually cause bad feelings to accumulate and further damage your relationships. Communication occurs when someone understands you, not just when you speak. One of the biggest dangers with communication is that we can work on the assumption that the other person has understood the message we are trying to get across. Developing effective communication skills is vital in maintaining relationships that are important to us.

4) Develop empathy.  Empathy and understanding build a connection between people. It is a state of perceiving and relating to another person’s feelings and needs without blaming, giving advice or trying to fix the situation.

5) Sometimes, being present is all that is required. Being present in the time you give to people is also important, so that, when you are with someone, make every attempt to truly be with them and not dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. This may also require stepping away from technology and putting our phones aside.clasped-hands-comfort-hands-people-45842

Six Tips For Healthier Natural Hair

  1. 1. Avoid Overspending on Products

When I first transitioned back to being natural, I would order every product posted on Instagram, and leave Target and Walgreen with bags full of hair products only to try them once or twice and add them to my shelf of “nah, not that one”. I ended up spending hundreds on products that did not match well with my hair and were often overpriced. Avoid overspending on different kinds of products. While it’s tempting to stockpile various natural hair products (especially if you’re just transitioning your hair), you might be wasting money on things you don’t actually need. I would spend hours on YouTube, watching girls giving amazing reviews for products that never seemed to work for me. It’s best to instead, only take advice from someone who has a similar texture to yours. Choosing products for your hair type is important and makes a big difference in hair growth and strength. Incorporate one new product at a time in order to determine effectiveness.pexels-photo-763191

2. Condition

One of the best things you can do for natural hair is conditioning.  This includes conditioning in the shower, deep conditioners and leave in conditioners. Leave-in conditioners are a great way to re-hydrate and bring moisture to otherwise dull lifeless hair.pexels-photo-573317

3. Cool Rinse

As girls, we are known for our love of hot showers. Quite frankly cold showers are not fun to anyone. However, when rinsing your hair it’s best to use cool or cold water.  Heat from the hot water essentially melts off all the conditioning elements when rinsed with hot water. The cooler temperatures allows all the ingredients of your conditioner   to stick to your hair for a longer-lasting effect. No matter how great the ingredients or how much you spend on the product, it is useless if you’re literally washing it down the drain.shower-shower-head-water-drop-of-water-161502.jpeg

4. Detangling

To avoid hair from becoming matted and tangled which will result in hair loss, detangle while in the shower with hair fully saturated in conditioner. The equipment used on hair such as heat, combs, and brushes are just as important as the products. Find the right comb or Denman brush for your hair texture, section hair into small parts and detangle with patience and care.

5. Styles and techniques

Stick to the pyramid. This hair pyramid categorizes things that we do to our hair and recommended frequency. Avoid tight ponytails to avoid stress at the hairlines. Nighttime routines should always include covering hair with a satin cap or pillowcase
